Cornerstone Program Wins Recognition for Work With Boys Town

Since 2005, more than 1,100 students enrolled in the Cornerstone Course have worked with Boys Town of Central Florida. Not only has it been a rewarding experience for the students, the students are being rewarded for their experience.

Florida Campus Compact, a coalition of more than 50 colleges and universities committed to promoting community service, service learning and civic engagement awarded UCF the Campus-Community Partnership Award on behalf of the College of Business Administration’s work with Boys Town, an organization dedicated to the housing and education of at-risk children.

The award honors one partnership that has successfully demonstrated a commitment to higher education and community that has resulted in a tangible community impact.

“Boys Town Central Florida is grateful for the significant partnership that exists between UCF and Boys Town. Not because of the various events and activities the students plan and facilitate, providing memories that will last a lifetime, but because of the role model aspect of the partnership. Although we greatly appreciate the activities UCF students provide, it is their being role models to our youth that makes all the difference,” said Terry Knox, development director of Boys Town.

“Our youth look up to the students, and through the interaction that occurs between them, Boys Town youth develop a “can-do” attitude, an attitude that is positive and motivational for our at-risk youth. Boys Town Central Florida is honored to be the recipient of the 2012 Campus-Community Partnership Award with the University of Central Florida. Go Knights!” he added.
