Parents and fans can help restore oyster reefs, watch band and theater performances and learn about medieval humor Saturday during the University of Central Florida’s annual College Open House Day.
Visitors can tour eight of UCF’s colleges, learn more about their academic programs and speak with staff and faculty members before watching the Knights play North Carolina State on Saturday night.
College Open House Day activities [1] begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. The times for each college’s events vary. The football game will start at 7:30 p.m.
“Academics are the foundation for UCF’s success, and we’re excited to highlight our programs on game day,” said Elliot Vittes, interim vice provost and dean of Undergraduate Studies. “We encourage our students’ families and fans to arrive early and learn more about the outstanding opportunities available to students.”
At the College of Education’s open house, guests can compete against UCF men’s and women’s basketball players in a free throw contest. They also can enjoy milk and cookies and a game of “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” in the Education Complex.
The Marching Knights and cast members from the upcoming fall production of “Dames at Sea” will perform as part of the College of Arts & Humanities’ [2]open house. The college also will offer tours of the UCF Art Gallery and the new Performing Arts Center.
Fans of the arts also can enjoy lectures on medieval humor and Cuban poetry and folk music at the Burnett Honors College [3].
At the College of Sciences [4], Linda Walters from UCF’s Marine Biology and Ecology conservation lab will lead an interactive exhibit on oyster reef restoration. Statistics professor Mark Johnson will give a presentation about hurricane tracking that will include predictions for the rest of this year’s hurricane season.
Sean Snaith, director of UCF’s Institute for Economic Competitiveness, will give an update on the U.S. and Florida economies at the College of Business Administration’s [5] open house.
Athletic trainers and Physical Therapy students from the College of Health and Public Affairs [1] will provide free blood pressure checks and flexibility and posture screenings, and the College of Engineering and Computer Science [6] will host a Senior Design Expo.

Family Weekend Activities:
Several Family Weekend activities will be held on campus from Friday, Sept. 10, through Sunday, Sept. 12.
— Parents can check out the new Dental Center [8] and learn about services available to students during tours of the Health Center [8]. Tours will be given at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10.
— The Rosen College of Hospitality Management will host comedic ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger. The free performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Rosen Campus’ Darden Auditorium.
— The UCF Alumni Association [9] and the UCF Annual Fund will host a sold-out tailgate tent party before the football game on Saturday, Sept. 11.
— The Campus Activities Board will sponsor a brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. Families are invited to enjoy free food, music, caricatures, a meet and greet with Mr. and Miss UCF and much more.
